This guide can be used by program directors and training organizations to build the common skills necessary to improve program quality and program outcomes for children and youth.

The purpose of the Summer Staff Orientation Modules is to help you prepare your staff to work with school age children and youth in a summer program. The modules may be used for any program and can be tweaked to fit your program or individual needs.

The purpose of the Summer Staff Orientation Modules is to help you prepare your staff to work with school age children and youth in a summer program. The modules may be used for any program and can be tweaked to fit your program or individual needs. There are eight modules available. While these eight modules do not cover EVERYTHING they form a solid introduction to the basic competencies needed to care for kids who are school age/youth.

RELATIONSHIP BASED SUPERVISION MODULES
Relationship Based Professional Development (RBPD) refers to the approach of using relationships as a mechanism to facilitate quality improvement.

- Mentoring - adult to adult relationships designed to support and empower the professional skills of the individual worker
- Training - a structured educational or skill building activity provided to individuals
- Consultation - Assistance to a person, group, organization or community to build their capacity, accomplishes a task, or achieve a goal
- Coaching - Assistance to an individual that helps them do their work in the community, to build capacity, accomplish a task, or work toward a goal of community improvement
- Technical Assistance - Specific advice given by an expert with specialized technical knowledge.
An online interactive module was developed by MNSMART to assist individuals better understand how to actively engage in mentoring, coaching, consultation, or technical assistance relationships.
